Elmco Sales Inc., originally named Earl L. Morris Company, started in 1945 in Los Angeles Area.
Earl Morris (1913-2003) was born in Los Angeles, California. During World War II, he sold pipe valves and fittings and other related products to many of the Southern California ship yards.
In late 1940, Earl was quick to recognize that the type of products he enjoyed selling were specified by the engineer, and sold and installed as specified, to far greater degrees than products that were just a named or equal.
When Earl started his own business in 1945, called Earl L. Morris Company, the company was formed on the principle of selling the finest engineered plumbing products available. In 1951 and in the late 1950's the name was changed to Elmco Sales Inc. (ELMCO is an acronym for Earl L. Morris Company).
Elmco Sales Inc. is headquartered in City of Industry, California, serving as corporate headquarters, with central accounting, Human Resources, and all insurance and general corporate offices for all the Elmco's. Don Morris, as Chairman of the Board/CEO, works with each of the independent divisions under the Elmco group. Don started in the representative business out of College in 1969, first in various sales positions, later as President, and the last decade as Chairman. Don states: "Elmco has represented many of our family of companies, such as J.R. Smith Mfg., for over 50 years on a handshake and a 30 day contract. The representative business depends on trust and a mutually profitable relationship between the manufacturer and the manufacturer's representative. It is a marriage and can go through ups and downs, but if the trust can be maintained, the relationship can last and last.
